What is the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?

Since 1987, the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge has welcomed the world’s top universities and high schools to compete in the ultimate real-world engineering challenge and travel the Australian outback in a vehicle powered by the energy of the sun.
The route carves a path through the red heart of Australia, beginning in Darwin (Northern Territory), following the Stuart Highway to Port Augusta, and continuing along Highway 1 to the finish line in Adelaide, South Australia. Along the journey, teams traverse iconic terrain, encounter striking natural landmarks, and experience the distinct character and offerings of outback Australian towns.

Sunswift x BWSC

Competing teams enter their vehicle into one of the following three classes:
• Challenger
• Cruiser
• Explorer

We’re racing in Cruiser Class.

Vehicles must transport one driver and one passenger. Teams will be permitted to recharge overnight, making it a strategic challenge that emphasises energy efficiency and prioritises the direct use of renewable energy over dependence on stored power.

IN 2023, SUNSWIFT 7 WON.

Now, we’re back to defend our title, with a brand new car, a new team, and bigger ambitions. We’ve spent months designing, prototyping, and rebuilding from the ground up. Every bolt, wire, and line of code reflects countless hours of dedication from students who believe in what’s possible when passion meets purpose.
