Introducing IVy

Sunswift, the University of New South Wales’ (UNSW) Solar Racing Team is a multi-disciplinary, student-led, non-profit organization. We design and build solar cars competitively, and we want to share with you the completion of Sunswift IVy, our latest and finest adaptation of the solar racecar. Since its establishment Sunswift has expanded to incorporate over 60 talented and motivated students in a university-wide collaborative effort between business, arts, media, engineering and design. We are resolute to remain ambitious and reach new heights, constantly adding to the list of distinguished achievements in education, research, and solar racing.

The fundamental premise of our existence as an organisation is underpinned by the need for environmentally conscious designs which we test by competing against other teams like ours from all around the world in a world solar race. Our hard work culminates this October when we compete in the Global Green Challenge with Sunswift IVy. The 3000km race from Darwin to Adelaide attracts considerable local and international media and in 2009 will involve over 35 cars, and teams from 20 nations around the world, including America, England, France, Iran, Senegal and Malaysia. The race is a competition of speed and endurance but also an important international forum for innovation.

Open Source

We've started releasing all our designs as open source. At the moment we've released our Maximum Point Power Trackers as well as our Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). In the coming weeks we aim to add many more projects to this list. For more information, please have a read through opensource.sunswift.com
