21 September 2003    (Test Run #4)
Lake George

Back to WSC 2003 (Main)

Amidst the onset of the dreaded university mid-semester exams, the UNSW SRT is yet again on the road testing our latest improvements to the solar car.

Despite the overcast conditions with which the day started, the skies cleared by mid-morning to provide us with enough sunshine to go all the way to Lake George near the Australian Capital Territory! With pit stops en route along the M5 at Pheasants Nest and Sutton Forest, we averaged 70km/hr, travelling an impressive total of 288 km.

Focuses for this testing run included rigorous testing of the telemetry and cruise control systems, and was another excellent opportunity to practice our race driving formation. The latter being an important race consideration as it ensures not only the safety of the team and fellow motorists, but also minimises the time wastages at pit stops.

All in all, a productive testing run with very promising outcomes for the UNSW Sunswift II as we prepare to embark on the 2003 World Solar Challenge.
