09 October 2003    (Pre-Event Day 15)
Back of Bourke and beyond

Back to WSC 2003 (Main)

Today we travelled from Bourke (northern central NSW) to Blackall in central Queensland. It's not as far as we would have liked to go, but that just means an earlier start tomorrow morning!

We kicked the day off with a display at 'Central Park' in Bourke, and considering our arrival was somewhat un-announced we received a fair amount of interest. A few local children on school holidays came to look at the car as well as other members of the community and people just passing through. Andrew and Lauren went into the studio of ABN Western Plains and did a 5-10 minute pre-recorded interview.

We travelled via Cunnamulla, Charleville, Augathella and Tambo only really stopping for fuel and to change drivers. After arriving at Blackall, we started to set up the battery testing equipment, and after some difficulties, we were able to start testing our battery pack. The batteries were discharged over several hours overnight and required constant monitoring, which were done in shifts by Lauren and Ryan (as they were the only non-drivers and won't require much sleep, supposedly).

Pavel (our self elected chef for the trip) has been maintaining his form in the kitchen and cooked us up some pasta and chicken for tonight’s meal. He (with the help of others) has also been getting our lunch packs ready to go in the morning, so we can make lunch on the road.

The photos below show some shots of Andrew making up some sandwiches on route, our display in Bourke, and the battery testing equipment being set up at the caravan park in Blackall.
