| | | | | | After spending most of Tuesday packing and getting the batteries re-wired we were finally ready to leave Sydney, and did so roughly on schedule at 7am. We were given an extra hand from Suzie and Daniel, who aren’t joining us on the race, but still stayed up till the early hours to help us pack (Thank You!). Our departure was somewhat slow and we only arrived in Dubbo at 2.30pm. We had a brief media stop there, having a photo shoot and interview with The Dubbo Daily Liberal and also doing an interview on ABC Western Plains Radio. After driving through Nyngan we were greeted by the terrain which will no doubt dominate our trip from here on; relatively sparse vegetation and long, straight roads. A brief stop on the road between Nyngan and Bourke to help a family who had run out of fuel was a reminder of the harsh conditions that lie ahead of us. We arrived in Bourke quite a bit later than we intended, but at least we didn’t have to worry about cooking food for one night as there was a barbeque being prepared at the campsite we are staying in. After a much needed feed and some billy tea around the campfire team members moved off. Some of the drivers went to catch up on some much needed sleep and others continued with specific tasks like Pavel, Eddie and Greg who are working on how to pack the trailer more efficiently, and the electrical team (Dave, Bonne, and Michael) who are continuing with battery testing and other electrical tasks.
