| | | | | | The UNSW Solar Racing Team’s World Solar Challenge 2003 Campaign began in earnest on Monday this week, with the arrival of most team members at “Solarch” the home of our solar car, UNSW Sunswift II. There is plenty to be done in these final few days before we leave. Whether it is the kitting out of our support cars, organising accommodation on the journey ahead of us or making the final electrical and mechanical adjustments to UNSW Sunswift II, everyone has something to do. The race, which will start on the 19th of October, is now less than three weeks away. The team will leave Sydney on Monday the 6th of October, arriving in Darwin on the 14th after conducting some testing on route as well as visiting schools and local media at a number of towns. One of the main activities taking place at the beginning of this week was the formulation of action plans for almost every conceivable occurrence on the race. These will be implimented on testing runs and then refined so (theoretically) by the time we start the race, everything will run like clockwork. Our activities are already attracting extensive media coverage. Earlier this week The Bulletin magazine visited us at Solarch, to do an interview and take some photos. On Wednesday mornig we featured on Mt Isa radio, and this mornig we were contacted by ABC Radio Longreach, and did an interview on their breakfast show (we will be stopping at both these towns on our way up to Darwin).
