| | | The UNSW Solar Racing Team (SRT) AGO SunRace 2002 campaign has started today, departing from Sydney en route to Adelaide. Since the return of the team from the 2001 World Solar Challenge, the team has spent time optimising the array, thus allowing us to draw more power from the sun. We have also installed a new motor controller with higher efficiency, and changed the attachment of the aerodynamic wheel coverings, so that during the race we will be able to speed up tyre changes. This morning final packing was completed and final arrangements were made for the trip. The drive out to Molong was largly uneventful, with a quick stop for fuel and lunch. Shortly after Molong we pulled the car out to put some more kilometres on it and we were pleased with our progress except for some small problems with the trackers. It also gave us a chance to give our drivers some more practice on the open road. We arrived in Dubbo at about 6pm and started working on what we had picked up during the short testing run, while others in the team started on what was to be a lengthy dinner. Eddie Hope (our project leader) decided to try a new way to cook pasta. By putting it in with the cold water, then attempting to cook it, he had what could only be described as little success. So a second batch was made and some 4 hours after getting there we all finally ate. A lot. Then someone had to clean up..... but that's another story. Willy The Whale Willy!
